Privacy
Analytics and your data
Applies to this portfolio site
What this covers
This page describes the analytics used on this portfolio. It does not cover anything you send me directly by email or through the contact form, which I handle as ordinary correspondence.
What analytics is used for
I use analytics to understand which work visitors find useful, which projects get opened, which sections get read, so I can improve how the portfolio is organised and written. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or any automated decision-making, and the data is not sold or shared for those purposes.
Provider
Google Analytics 4, provided by Google. Google acts as a data processor for this measurement and operates its own infrastructure and policies. See Google's Privacy Policy for how Google handles data it processes.
What is collected
Only if you have allowed analytics, and limited to:
- Pages and portfolio sections viewed, and the order they were viewed in
- Deliberate interactions such as opening a project or starting the contact form
- Approximate location derived by Google from your IP address, at country or city level
- Device and browser characteristics, such as screen size, language and operating system
- Referring site, where one is present
What is never collected: anything you type. Contact-form values, the portfolio access password, names, email addresses, message contents, and session or authentication identifiers are not sent to analytics.
Consent basis
Analytics runs only with your consent. Until you choose, no analytics tag is
loaded and no analytics storage is used, with Google Consent Mode set to deny
analytics and advertising storage by default. Declining is a full stop, not a
reduced mode: nothing is sent, including any record of the decision itself. Your
choice is stored in your own browser under moyo-analytics-consent
and is the only thing stored for this purpose.
How long it is kept
Event-level and user-level analytics data is retained for up to 14 months, which is the retention period configured on this property. After that period it is no longer available for user-level and event-level analysis such as explorations.
This setting governs that user-level and event-level data specifically. Google handles aggregated reporting data separately, and some aggregated reports may be retained on a different basis. I do not control Google's handling of aggregated data, so this page does not claim that all analytics data is permanently deleted after exactly 14 months.
Changing or withdrawing consent
You can change your choice at any time, in either direction. Withdrawing consent stops further collection immediately; it does not by itself erase data already collected, which ages out under the retention period above.

You can also block analytics at the browser level, through a content blocker or by disabling JavaScript. The portfolio is built to work normally when analytics is blocked or unavailable.
